Chela`s Tacos in Alamo Heights

Cost $18 for a quesadilla and a large tea. Nothing special about it. Quesadilla was on small tortillas. Had barely any flavor to it. For the price i was utterly disappointed and felt overcharged.....

The best tacos and Mexican food in San Antonio. Absolutely incredible stuff. After moving to Austin from SA we would often take trips back just to include a stop at Chela’s. The staff are very friendly and are truly masters at their craft.

I love going to Chela's, great food always. We try everything the have for the day. Always excellent. Love the people. Ms. Chela, and staff are the best always there treating you like family.

Loooove this place! It was a go to during college, and I wish I lived closer these days! Their breakfast tacos are delicious, and their flour tortillas are amazing. Their flautas are also very tasty! They always great us with a friendly face and make us feel welcome.

If you are looking for good authentic Mexican food this is not the place! The flautas tasted like they were from the frozen section at the grocery store. The beans tasted like canned beans and the chips and salsa had a funny taste. This place charges too much for what they serve you, your better off saving your money and going elsewhere!

Great place for fresh and flavorful tacos. I enjoy the salsa bar with various toppings. Friendly service. Be sure to ask for their recommendations. I haven't been disappointed yet.

The margaritas are phenomenal. Walking distance to the university. Food was pretty decent. Plenty of space to bring family and friends.

Wow! My chorizo and potato taco was awesome. I asked for tortilla yo be toasted a bit and it was perfect. Hubby had egg, bacon, and potato taco. If you want crispy bacon, ask. I forgot, but he still loved it. We will be back!

The food and service were amazing. Best chicken tortilla soup since i visited Los Cabos!!!! Definitely will be back next time were in town.

How does this place have 5 stars?? 1st of all the chips are in the smallest bowl, the salsa is not even made. It literally taste EXACTLY like the 1$ salsa you can find at heb. The TACOS are averagely above $3 each for amateur tacos. They taste CHEAP nothing tasteful or extravagant. Apparently its more of self assistance. No warm greeting, the waitress barely makes any attempt to talk and surely shows she does not care for customers. Let's not forget the SAME SONG left on repeat during the whole time. I thought it was just a never ending song. Please go get some actual Mexican food coming from a Mexican herself :).

Bad chef. My bacon was undercooked.. the taco tasted horrible. I don’t think they like me so I won’t be giving them any more money :-)

My first time here, it's AWESOME ...so as far as being a true Mexican or NOT you will love the food...flautas MMMM...puffy tacos MMMM...& ask to try the chicken al cilantroMMMMM...made FRESH EVERY DAY

Not sure what people are talking about with the high ratings. I would rate this just below average. Clean environment but not worth the effort to park and dine. I was not impressed. I had a simple bacon and egg and a fajita taco. Fajita meat was overly seasoned and tasted like salt. The bacon was cooked perfectly. I wish the tortillas resembled more of a homemade style rather than the glossy store bought ones.

Carne Guisada and cilantro chicken blew me away!

Hands down, best tacos in San Antonio, everything is fresh and made to order. No greasy tacos ever! Super Delicious & well served. They are definitely not cheap with the servings size. To top off they Make you feel welcomed as if you are family.

First time here did NOT disappoint! Great tacos!!! And friendly atmosphere!! LOVE the chicken cilantro taco and Barbacoa!! Will be returning!! :)

The la costra taco is a monster. No need for anything else. Great place and selections.

I love this place. I ordered 2 large bowls of soup so I can drink all the broth. Everyone is pleasant and friendly. The food is clean tasting and great presentation when brought out. I can't put my finger on it. All I can say is neat, clean, healthy, light, upbeat are the words I'd use to describe their food. Hope you enjoy.

Amazing tacos and the Costra is so good! You really can’t go wrong ordering anything off their menu. The food is clearly made with fresh high quality ingredients, and their recipes have been consistently top notch for the last 9 years that we have been eating there. Chela is such a sweet lady and makes you feel at home. Her staff is just as friendly and amazing. We will keep going there, again and again! Highly recommended!! :)

The food was alright, well not to die dor but okay. Great service and friendly servers.

The place is clean and has a nice atmosphere.great menu option.the only problem is they have no special.when I got food everything was great except the rice they had no flavor to them had to add salt and pepper to it.

This is a real find in San Antonio- no wonder they are expanding. It feels like going to my grandma's for Sunday lunch. You are always greeted with a big welcome and a family behind the counter makes your food in eye sight. And I may have forgotten to mention how delicious the food is. It's like going home again.

A gem of a Mexican taco restaurant right down the street from one of the busiest intersections in San Antonio, it is small and always busy but it serves great food, and I would especially recommend this place if you ordered pickup and came to the store to grab it, because usually the line takes a fair amount of time. Great chicken cilantro and other classic tacos.

Seriously feel bad about this post but it had to be said. Their food has absolutely no flavor it's as if my taste buds died, we tried the mini gorditas, breakfast tacos, and posole none of which tasted remotely like Mexican food, even the cilantro tasted so weirdly bland 😭😭😭

First time here! Friendly staff, clean restaurant, great food! The beans and rice were delicious, fresh, just right! I had a Picadillo and the chicken mole taco! The mole was delicious, some of the best I've had in San Antonio! And I've had a lot of mole all over San Antonio. I had always wondered why no one offered a chicken mole taco, and now Chela's does!A must try, and I'll definitely be back!

Awesome place to eat and hang out! Service is great, Mayan, served us and patiently waited until we decide what to eat, she also offered great suggestions that we ended up loving! Definitely a place to visit again, food tasted great. (P.S. it was our first time here.)

Best chips n queso in town. Friendly staff. Small spot so come earlier or later than the normal lunchtime rush. That's usually around 1130 to 1230. Or call ahead of time. I'm pretty sure they cater as well. Try them out. Worth a shot.

Had a egg, potato and bacon taco and it was good. I would have liked the bacon a little crisper, but I forgot to ask for it. Wife had chorizo and potato and asked for a toasted tortilla. She said it was excellent. Will definitely return

Very authentic. Went to various Tex Mex places in San Antonio but many were just stereotypical Hacienda.This place was far more legit in presentation, flavor, and offering.Very close to what I had during my time living with a Mexican family.

Incredibly generous portions for the price, not greasy, and it tastes so good!! You can definitely tell the difference with the homemade tortillas and sausage/chorizo. The place is clean and the service was very friendly. A great breakfast, I wish I had more time in SA to have it again!

Everything is delicious... I ordered enchiladas suizas today and the flavor was perfect!... I bought a costra de asada too and the flavors melted in your mouth... So good!

These breakfast tacos were delicious. They were stuffed very well and were chunky. They are about 7 inch flour tortilla breakfast tacos. The only gripe is they are not handmade flour tortillas. They are store bought and just cooked in the comal. That is the only reason they don’t get a full five stars. Other than that the first time experience was great. I ordered through grub hub and that first time experience was exceptional as well. I had to call the store to order drinks because i couldn’t order drinks from grub hub. The customer service was great and the lady that answered was nice and made sure my order was complete. Our order was correct and everything i ordered was exactly how i ordered it.
